Horizontal Support Netting
Horizontal support netting is a simple and effective way to keep your dahlias upright, even in wind and rain.
What You'll Need
- Polypropylene or nylon support netting with 10–15 cm grid squares
- Steel posts, wooden stakes, rebar, or T-posts
- Cable ties or twine
How to Install
- Position posts around your dahlia bed, spacing them about 1.2 metres apart.
- Stretch the netting tightly between the posts and secure it firmly.
- Install the first layer 30–45 cm above the ground.
- As your dahlias grow, add another layer of netting every 30 cm to keep the stems supported.
Why It Works
- The stems grow naturally through the mesh, which keeps them upright without restricting growth.
- The netting supports heavy blooms, improves airflow, and helps prevent stems from bending or breaking.
